Trauma

Trauma can mean many things:

  • Physical injury, which often needs physical therapy to heal the body and sometimes counseling to heal the mind.
  • Emotional and physical trauma such as intimate partner violence, child abuse and sexual assault, which often needs counseling to heal the mind and sometimes physical therapy to heal the body.
  • Developmental or attachment trauma, which happens in the first 18 years of life and can make it hard to form and keep relationships. Healing usually needs counseling for the mind, and often some kind of movement, such as yoga, to reconnect body and mind.

Trauma Wellness focuses on counseling for all of these kinds of trauma. Our counselors specialize in many areas, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, addiction fueled by trauma, grief, intimate partner violence, sexual assault, vicarious trauma in first responders, fertility struggles, trauma-informed yoga, play therapy and sandtray therapy.

Trauma is something out of the ordinary that happens to us, but our reactions to it are actually very normal. We are built to respond in whatever way best protects us in those moments.
