Who we are

Trauma Wellness is a team of licensed professional counselors in Tennessee, each specializing in different kinds of trauma.

Our center has room for movement, play and sandtray therapy, art therapy, yoga and somatic therapy. It's built on the work of Bessel van der Kolk, who found that the body keeps the score of the trauma we live through.

We meet each person where they are and design a treatment plan that fits them. That plan can combine any of these approaches with talk therapies like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

Amy Dilworth

MS, LPC, MHSP ยท Owner

I've worked with people who have experienced trauma since 1996, 30 years now. I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor with Mental Health Service Provider status.

During my 1996 internship at a domestic violence shelter, I realized I had been in two abusive relationships myself. Most of us are never taught what abuse looks like. At its core, it's about control. I knew those relationships weren't right, but I never would have called them abusive, and in 30 years of this work I've found that few survivors do. I went on to lead the shelter's support group for survivors for about 12 years, then continued it at the Family Justice Center.

My career has included:

  • Outpatient therapist at the Project Against Sexual Abuse of Appalachian Children (PASAAC), working with children who had been sexually abused, adult survivors and offenders
  • Clinical Director at Camelot Care in therapeutic foster care, where I learned a great deal about play and art therapy and about supporting parents of children who have experienced trauma
  • Investigator of abuse and neglect of people with disabilities in institutional settings, where I saw how marginalized people are targeted
  • Founding Executive Director of the Knoxville Family Justice Center, serving survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in Knox County. Over 14 years I took it from a government hybrid to an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

I use CBT and EMDR as a foundation and meet each person where they are. I also draw on my degree in Dance Education to support somatic healing. I hope this site helps survivors advocate for themselves, too.

Outside the office, I knit, crochet, make jewelry, practice yoga, walk, and spend time with my dog Lilah and my cat Samson.

I work with adolescents and adults, including people struggling with substance use and first responders facing PTSD, depression and anxiety related to their work. I also work as an Advanced EMT with an ambulance service, so I understand how hard that job is and how little support it often comes with.

I care deeply about offering a safe, supportive space for people living with anxiety, depression or trauma-related conditions like PTSD. I especially like using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI), and I also offer EMDR.

My golden retriever is in training to become a therapy dog who can join sessions. In my spare time I enjoy friends, family, animals, puzzles and reading.

Aimee Finegan

MS, LPC, MHSP

Aimee grew up in three countries and returned to the U.S. for college at 18. During her husband's ten years of military service, the family lived in two countries and four states. Seeing so much of the world showed her how unique each person is, and she loves getting to know who each client is and who they want to become.

After earning her master's degree from Messiah College in 2017, she joined a small practice in Fayetteville, North Carolina, where she saw how many clients carried trauma. She trained in EMDR, one of the most effective trauma treatments available, and became certified. She also draws on mindfulness, somatic resourcing and a holistic view that brings mind, body and emotions together.

Aimee has worked with everyone from high schoolers to retirees and veterans to stay-at-home moms, on depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder and life transitions. She especially enjoys working with neurodivergent clients, draws on her multicultural background to connect with people from every culture, and has supported many LGBTQIA+ clients. She specializes in sexual, physical, spiritual and emotional abuse.

If you'd like to bring your faith into your work, Aimee will honor it and help you explore how it has shaped you. If not, that's completely fine.

Aimee and her family moved to Knoxville in 2022, and she joined Trauma Wellness in 2025.
